Okinawa’s Japan return anniversary plans announced

by Andy_G

Plans for celebrating the 50th anniversary return of Okinawa to Japan were announced today. The event will be held in both Tokyo and Okinawa, in line with previous major anniversaries. The two venues will be linked online with the Japanese emperor and empress connecting from the capital while Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is expecting to make the trip to the southern prefecture. Okinawa was held under US administration for 27 years after the Second World War. It was the last remaining prefecture in Japan to be occupied by Allied forces and was officially returned to Japanese control on May 15, 1972.
